About Sóller

Sóller is situated to the Northeast of Mallorca and lies in a valley cutting through the Tramuntana range, across the sea. The climate, the landscape , the light and the characteristics of the town make Sóller into a fascinating place to visit.

The Sóller valley, isolated by mountains, can be reached from Palma by car, via a mountain pass known as " the Coll of Sóller" through a 3 km túnnel and by train, following one of the most spectacular routes of the island. This is the gateway to the valley of orange groves and slopes of olive trees.

Export of local oranges and lemons as web as olive oil, to France through the Port, led to an intensive cultural exchange which can still be seen in the famous noble houses with beautiful facades, which show an unusual elegance for Mallorca.

There are several other centres of population in Sóller, all of them places of either permanent or semi-permanent refuge for artists and people who have felt attracted by the peace, the colours and the light of the valley.

The municipality of Sóller covers an area of some 44 square kilometres and has a population of 10.515 (1996 ).
